Have you ever woken up feeling a deep sadness you couldn’t explain?
That was me today.
Despite a full calendar, purpose-driven work, and a heart that longs to keep pouring into others—I found myself sitting quietly, feeling heavy. Maybe you’ve had days like that too. Days when your soul aches and you can’t put your finger on why.
But in the middle of it all, one truth came gently to mind:
“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” — Colossians 1:17
And then I played the worship song “You Hold It All Together” by Maverick City Music + Upperroom—and something shifted. Not my circumstances. Not even my mood instantly. But my awareness that God was near.
1. God of My Present
There’s a line in the song that says:
“God of my present…”
And that hit home. Because sometimes we think God is mostly involved in the big decisions or spiritual moments. But He’s the God of the now. The God of your silence. Of your tears. Of your couch-sitting, coffee-holding, “I don’t feel like myself” moments.
You don’t have to pretend with Him. You can say:
“God, I don’t know what I’m feeling today—but I invite You into it.”
2. God of My Future
Another line declares:
“God of my future…”
Sadness can often come from uncertainty—the things we hope for, long for, or fear might never happen. But God isn’t just walking with you—He’s already in your tomorrow.
That means your unanswered questions, hidden desires, and current doubts are all safely held in the hands of a faithful Father.
Pray this with me:
“Lord, I surrender my future to You again. You know what’s ahead—and that’s enough for me.”
3. You Hold It All Together
Perhaps the most powerful part of this song is its simple, anchoring declaration:
“You hold it all together.”
Even when we don’t.
Even when we feel overwhelmed.
Even when we can’t explain the weight in our soul—He’s not confused, and He’s not distant.
Friend, you are not falling apart.
You are being held together by the One who created you, knows you, and loves you deeply.
Final Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being present in my sadness. I may not fully understand why I feel the way I do, but I know You do. You’re not asking me to be strong today—you’re just asking me to be close. So I rest in You. I choose to trust that You are holding my story, my now, and my next. You hold it all together. And I’m safe in Your hands.
Amen.
If you’re reading this and walking through a quiet sadness, I want you to know: you are not alone. You are seen, loved, and carried by the God who holds every detail of your life with tenderness and purpose.
🎧 I highly recommend listening to “You Hold It All Together” by Maverick City Music as you reflect today.
Stay anchored. Stay loved. Stay real.
